SEC declares by-poll results of seven village panchayats

PANJIM: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday declared the results of the by-elections held for seven wards of seven village panchayats.

Shahu Varak was declared elected from ward VI on Ona-Maulinguem-Kudchirem village panchayat. In the triangular battle, Varak polled 196 votes while, Eknath Chari got 151 votes and Rajendra Narvekar polled 14 votes.

In ward V of Velguem village panchayat, Sarvesh Ghadi emerged winner by polling 138 votes as against 74 votes polled by Sakshi Priolkar and 36 by Mahesh Gavande.

Harshad Parit won the by-election from ward V of Balli-Adnem village panchayat. Parit polled 118 while, his nearest rival Rohidas Naik secured 99 votes. The other two candidates Pruthviraj Fal Dessai and Prashant Naik polled 56 and 36 votes respectively.

In ward VII of Barcem-Quedem village panchayat, Sarvanand Velip was declared winner by polling 230 votes while his rival Dinesh Velip secured 196 votes.

In ward II of Kalay village panchayat, Suraj Naik polled 147 votes and Pratap Naik polled 131 votes.

Fatima Bitosa Cardoso elected as panch member of rachol VP

MARGAO: The Rachol village panchayat on Monday hailed the victory of newly-elected panchayat member Fatima Bitosa Cardoso, who defeated former Sarpanch Querobino Pedro Gomes in the by-poll held for ward I,.

In the straight fight, Cardoso secured 110 votes (53.92% vote share) while Gomes got 92 votes (45.10% vote share).

Speaking to media persons after the results were declared, Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz said the victory of Cardoso is also a victory for the ruling panchayat body.

Vaz further added that the panchayat is totally stable now with Cardoso’s victory as there is no threat from the opposition anymore and that the result proved that the people of the village had reposed their faith in the panchayat.
