SEC introduces election management system

PANJIM: On the eve of the end of his tenure, Goa State Election Commissioner Dr M Modassir introduced the Election Management System (EMS), a real time management of polls, which will be introduced in local body elections across the State.

The software covers the entire process of generating an electoral roll, starting from applications received and generation of a supplementary roll to integration to the mother roll. The system was first used during the 2011 Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) elections and thereafter during the Margao civic body bypolls.
On the occasion, Modassir said he is happy to achieve this milestone during his tenure, which ends this week. “Many think that the elections of local bodies are of not that much importance. That is not the case,” he said.
He said that Chief Secretary R K Srivastava, who was chief guest of the event, will be taking over as the election commissioner next month.
