PANJIM: The Goa State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday lifted the model code of conduct, which was imposed in view of zilla panchayat elections. The Code has been lifted with effect from 00.00 hrs of the intervening night of March 20 and March 21, in view of postponement of elections to the Zilla Panchayat, which were supposed to be held on March 22.
The Election Code, which came into force from February 22, was supposed to continue till March 23, till the counting process is complete.

However, in view of coronavirus pandemic, the elections were postponed.
Meanwhile, SEC in an affidavit filed before the Bombay High Court at Goa has informed about postponement of the elections until further orders.
SEC has informed the court that the situation will be reviewed in two weeks. Appreciating the decision of the State government, High Court disposed off the public interest litigation filed by Vasco resident Kenneth Silveira, urging to postpone the elections.
