SANGUEM: The main pipeline supplying water to South Goa from Selaulim Water Treatment Plant burst at Nagvem on Tuesday evening thereby disrupting the drinking water supply to most parts of South Goa.
The officials however assured to restore the water supply by late in the night after the repair operations continued till late in the evening.
Sources informed that after the sudden burst in the main water supply pipeline, the department reportedly made arrangement to regulate the water supply to South Goa through the old water pipeline.
However, since the old pipeline is weak, the water would be released with less pressure as such there will be no major problem in restoring water supply till Verna. The water supply to areas onward Verna to Vasco may however get affected, informed sources.
The work of repairing the pipeline will however get completed by 10 pm and water would be restored immediately, workers at the site said.
Mobile numbers of officials were not reachable for comments.
It is pertinent that a couple of months ago, the JICA pipeline supplying water to Verna had ruptured at Nagvem. The water was however restored immediately after the replacement of the valve which caused the damage.
