Villages enroute from Selaulim to these talukas too will have restricted water supply.
“Partial shutdown has been arranged on April 10 due to urgent maintenance works of Selaulim water treatment plant, Xelpem-Sanguem,” says a notification from the water resources department.
Selaulim presently has a 200-MLD water treatment plant and a new plant of 100 MLD is due to get ready this month. The PWD has made a provision for further augmenting the facility by another 100-MLD so as to take care of areas such as Sanguem, Sanvordem, Salcete, Mormugao and parts of Canacona for the next 25 years.
The 100MLD augmentation project is likely to cost Rs 680 crore and was constructed under the Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) project.
According to JICA, the total capacity of the water treatment plants in Goa would become 599 MLD by 2015, from its present 464 MLD
capacity.
