MARGAO: Trinade Martins, 80-year-old senior citizen was found murdered at his Varca residence by unknown person, on Thursday night.
According to Colva Police, the victim, who was staying alone in the house, had several injuries on his body particularly on face.
Police said the door of the house was open when an unknown person came inside the house and assaulted Martin with iron road causing serious injuries.
Police said that they have recovered the iron rod used by the accused to kill the senior citizen.
Police were informed about the incident through the police control room and a team headed by Police Inspector Melson Colaco along with Police Sub-Inspectors Deepa Deykar, Jaideep Amre, Subash Gaunker and other staff rushed to the spot.
Police team conducted the panchanama to arrest the accused who had escaped after committing the murder. Finger prints, dog squad were also pressed into service to get the clue. Forensic team also rushed to the spot.
Police said that they received information sating that there was a fight. However, reaching at the spot it was found that murder took place. Colva Police have registered an offence under Section 302 of IPC.
Later, police shifted the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao for post mortem examination.
Police said that the exact motive behind the murder is not known and investigation is in progress.
