VASCO: The Yellow and Black Taxi Union has opposed the demands of the Tourist Taxi Union for a separate pre-paid counter or to merge the two unions at the new airport terminus in Dabolim.
It may be recalled that the tourist taxi union in a memorandum to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had demanded a single window operating counter at the new airport terminus.
“With the opening of new airport terminus, the present operating system of the taxis will change, thus creating more problems for both the unions,” the union had stated in the memorandum.
The memorandum further requested the chief minister either to allot a separate pre-paid counter to both the unions or to merge Tourist Taxi Union and Black and Yellow Taxi Union and grant a single window counter to avoid misunderstanding and rivalry among both the taxi unions.
When contacted, Sandeep Shetye of Yellow and Black Taxi Union said they are not in favour of merging both the unions for a single window counter, as it will lead to more problems.
“If the both the unions are merged, then other tourist taxi operators will also demand to allow their taxis to operate through the union which is not possible,” said Shetye.
“The High Court had permitted the tourist taxi union to operate a counter at the airport under the name ‘Tourist Taxi Information Counter’, but instead of providing the tourists with information on the taxis, the Tourist Taxi Union is carrying out post-paid services
