PANJIM: The Agasaim police on Friday arrested Peter Vaz, 71, a resident of Dongri-Mandur on the charge of firing gun shots at two brothers during cremation of a person at Padribhat, Mandur.
According to the police, the accused allegedly fired two rounds from his pistol at Sushant Vengurlekar and his brother Shyam, who along with others had gone to clean the property for cremation. Both the brothers had a narrow escape as the bullets passed from close proximity.

While they were cleaning the property, the accused came on a two-wheeler, abused Vengurlekar brothers in filthy language and further threatened to kill them with a pistol. Thereafter, he pointed the pistol towards Sushant and Shyam and fired, thereby attempting to commit murder. The accused then fled from the spot on his two-wheeler.
Based on a complaint lodged by Shyam, the police arrested the accused within two hours, from Panjim. During the course of investigation, the accused confessed to the crime and the police recovered at his instance .25 bore pistol having five rounds and two used for firing.
A case under Section 504, 506 (ii) and 307 of IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act has been registered against Vaz. Further investigations are on, police said.
