MARGAO: The Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday discussed only the budget for the year 2020-21 and approved a Rs 5.69 lakh surplus budget even as villagers pointed out that the actual expenditure for the current year was not presented to them and asked the panchayat to present the actual expenditure along with proposed budget in future.
The total receipts projected by the panchayat is Rs 1.69 crore while the total expenditure was projected at Rs 1.63 crore with house tax contributing only Rs 6.35 lakh and that is why the discussion was on the actual expenditure for the year.
The villagers pointed out that the projections from house tax and trade tax in the budget was lower than the actual of the current year and asked the panchayat to enhance the amount under these two heads.
The gram sabha also informally discussed the possibility of action being taken against the sarpanch and elected panchas including their disqualification because of their failure to set up the material recovery facility.
The panchayat pointed out that all the four sites proposed by the panchayat were rejected by the authorities on grounds that they were low lying areas and the villagers asked the panchayat to ask the government to help them in finding a place.
A few villagers even suggested that Seraulim join hands with some neighbouring panchayat to set up a common facility for both the panchayats.
