Seraulim villagers vote against mega projects
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, FEB 22
Seraulim villagers on Sunday have resolved not to approve any mega housing and commercial projects in the village.
At the gram Sabha meeting today, members were unanimous of the view that additional housing and commercial projects would further aggravate the inadequate infrastructure, including power, water and garbage disposal.
The gram Sabha members told the Panchayat body to reject and return back any mega housing construction file to the builders without processing.
The Panchayat was told to approve only files of individual houses.
The decision to ban mega housing projects comes against the backdrop of the report submitted by the Development Committee constituted by the gram Sabha.
The Committee has submitted a report that the fragile village infrastructure, including electricity, water and garbage disposal would not meet the requirements of any mega housing and commercial projects.
The decision is likely to affect two-three projects which have been submitted to the Panchayat body for approval.
Meanwhile, in another decision, the gram Sabha have resolved to ask the members to attend the gram Sabha meeting with their election identity card.
The resolution has been apparently taken to dissuade non-members from attending the meetings and voting on issues.
It was resolved that only members with ID card will have the right to attend the meeting, speaking on any subject and cast his vote on issues.
