MARGAO: Residents of Ambeaxir, Sernabatim of the village panchayat of Colva on Wednesday protested the destruction of the lone asphalted road passing through their ward to the Sernabatim beach which has been neglected for over a month.
Elvis Vas, a ward resident leading the protest said a private service provider had started cutting the road in December.
“Enquiries at the panchayat revealed that they had no permission or licence from the panchayat and that is the reason we had opposed to the work as it would disrupt our Christmas celebrations,” he said.
As the company failed to provide satisfactory answer to the locals regarding the licence, the villagers stopped all work on January 15, 2018.
“Since then no work has been undertaken, which is okay with us, but the question is who is going to repair the road which has been cut by the company” the locals asked.
They pointed out that the road has turned dangerous for people especially riders. Some tourists wondered as to why they should visit Colva if the authorities are not ready to provide a bare minimum facility such as a safe and motorable road.
Meanwhile, Rachol residents have appealed to Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo to provide them relief from the road cutting works being carried out to replace the already laid cables, which have forced the commuters to undergo severe hardship while travelling on the narrow roads.
