MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai while inaugurating the first of its kind leisure park constructed in the open space of the housing society and challenged the other councilors from Fatorda to set up such leisure spots in their wards.
The leisure park called Gulab Baag is erected in 950 square metres of land that was marked as the open space of Mayfair Society and has been set up at a cost of around Rs. 10,000 a major portion of which has been borne by We For Fatorda without taking any support or help of the government.
‘Vijai said he wants to have such parks in all the 11 wards of Fatorda constituency that form part of Margao Municipal Council and added that the same should be done within the next one and half year. “Erecting these parks will establish the success of the municipal council,” he said.
The Gulab Baag has seven machines for body weight exercises for senior citizens that will keep their joints in good condition besides also helping deal with frozen soldiers. A slide and two pairs of swings are installed for children and a stage is constructed at one end to hold some programmes.
Vijai admitted that a similar park set up by him at the walking trek at Fatorda is misused.
