PANJIM: The Mapusa-based group ‘Mapusa Nagrikancho Ekvott’ has expressed deep resentment over the manner in which pipes are laid for the sewerage scheme in the city.
In a letter addressed to Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza, copy of which have been sent to Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Sandip Falari, the NGO has welcomed the work as it was long overdue and was favoured by the organization, however it has expressed deep anguish over the manner in which the work has been done.
Chairman Antonio Lobo said as per the original plan, the work was supposed to be carried out in a trenchless manner. “But, it is seen that large trenches have been dug and there are craters and dust clouds everywhere in the city, leaving humans and vehicular movement in total disarray.”
“We are terribly unhappy and disillusioned with the fact that, in total contravention of what was planned, the setting up of the sewerage scheme by the ‘trenchless method’ this city has been dug to lay the pipelines which has been the cause of large craters in the city resulting in dust clouds covering every nook and corner of the city and showering its citizens with untold misery.”
“MMC did not even deem fit to sprinkle the streets with water to reduce the dust pollution.”
