MARGAO: Bad odour enveloped the Gandhi market area on Monday after sewage water entered the houses of residents and businessmen.

Locals protested over the pathetic situation, demanding action against Sulabh International, which looks after the maintenance of the toilet block.

BJP leader Sharmad Raiturcar said it was pitiable sight to see sewage waters entering the residences of the people in the Gandhi market. He said the BJP workers would inspect the condition of all the Sulabh toilets in Margao in the near future. “We will compile the data with photographs and submit the same to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to initiate action, including termination of the contract awarded to Sulabh in the State,” he added.

The situation was brought to the notice of the Margao Municipal Chief Officer, Deepali Naik, who promised immediate action by calling the Sulbah workers.
