Sewage water: PHC Aldona calls for strict action

Directs PWD Mapusa to disconnect water supply to 38 flat owners residing at Prabhu Residency, Socorro

PORVORIM: Primary Health Center Aldona has directed PWD Mapusa to disconnect the water supply to 38 flat owners residing at Prabhu Residency, Socorro, for reportedly not taking any action to stop overflowing sewage water.
PHC Aldona issued the order to the assistant engineer, PWD Mapusa, on January 23 to disconnect water supply to the residents of C and D buildings of Prabhu Residency, located opposite Socorro Panchayat, for having not taken any action to stop the overflowing sewage water despite serving the notice to them.
The affected residents of E1 and E Buildings of Prabhu Residency had complained to the PHC Aldona on October 17, 2014, stating that septic tank/soak pits of buildings C and D are overflowing and it was emanating toxic smell, due to which their family members started falling sick.
Acting on the complaint, Aldona Health Center carried out site inspection on October 21, 2014, and issued notice to the residents of C and D buildings to abate the nuisance, failing which necessary action will be initiated against them as per the provisions of The Goa Public Health Act 1985 including disconnection of PWD water supply and electricity connections.
Since the residents of the C and D buildings of Prabhu Residency failed to take necessary action to abate 
the nuisance, the Aldona Health Centre directed the assistant engineer of PWD Mapusa to discontinue the water supply.
