Sewerage networking for most parts of Margao by 2015: Kamat

MARGAO: Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that most parts of Margao city will be connected to the sewerage network by early 2015.

He also allayed fears expressed in certain quarters that many households in the Ratwado-Colmorod areas of Margao will be left out from the sewerage network.
Addressing the media after a joint meeting with senior officials implementing the JICA project in Margao, Kamat said that JICA officials have agreed to put in place a mechanism to ensure that officials promptly attend to water pipe line breakdowns while laying the sewerage lines. “I have told JICA officials to take utmost caution to ensure that water pipelines are not damaged while laying the sewerage line. Even if a water line is damaged, a system is now put in place to ensure repair of the water pipeline at the earliest”, Kamat said.
On the apprehensions raised by people of Ratwado that their houses will not be connected to the sewerage network, Kamat allayed the fears reassuring that all houses and establishments will be connected to the network. “If some houses are left out of the sewerage network, the very purpose of laying the sewerage line will be defeated. JICA will draw up a mechanism, whether to lay a parallel line or to connect the houses to the line recently laid in the area”, he added.
