Chairman Rajan Naik says infrastructure is the first priority

MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority has once again deferred implementation of pay parking in its mega market for want of necessary infrastructure.
While the proposal to develop the huge open space in front of the Osia Commercial Complex coming a cropper and the situation in the wholesale fish market has not changed for the better as per the demands of the fish vendors, sources said the SGPDA had no option but to defer implementation of the proposal.
SGPDA Chairman Rajan Naik said the pay parking proposal will not be implemented from August 15. “The SGPDA will not do anything in haste, but will first put the infrastructure in place,” he said.
Fish vendors, who had offered their cooperation to the SGPDA to implement the pay parking proposal on condition that retail sale of fish is stopped in the wholesale fish market, have declined to comment on the pay parking proposal. Leader of fish vendors Felix Gonsalves said the vendors would wait for the SGPDA to honour its promises before they take their stand on the pay parking proposal.
A city-based lawyer, Adv Pritam Moraes, said the citizens will not shy away from paying parking fees of Rs five for a four-wheeler, provided they create the necessary infrastructure in place.
