MARGAO: The South Goa shack operators have opined that it is time to review the shack policy and make it stringent to prevent illegalities in the businesses.
They have requested Environment Minister and Government of Goa not to delay allotment of shacks this time due to the formulation of Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and also requested that they increase the shacks in Goa.
The Shack Operators Welfare Society has requested the government to immediately complete all the procedures related to shacks and allot them on time. The shack owners have also requested the chief minister increase the number of shacks and also include the plans they earlier submitted while drafting the CZMP.
Shack Owners Welfare Society President Cruz Cardozo said, “In 2011 we had prepared a report on our shacks. The NCSCM has also prepared a carrying capacity report and mentioned how many more can be added. We will submit the Google images and the report to the chief minister and environment minister,” he said.
They informed that, presently, there are 259 shacks in North Goa and 105 in South. The report suggests that South Goa has carrying capacity of 500 and the society has said that the government should increase the number of shacks on the basis of this report.
On CZMP, Cruz said that in 2011, a plan was prepared and the shack owners had taken initiative and got their shacks included. “Hence, we shouldn’t fight before submitting what we want,” he advised.
