MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday directed all the mamlatdars in Goa to conduct a survey of crop losses at a meeting.
The direction was issued during a meeting held at the chief minister’s office to discuss the issue.
The Farmers Club of St Estevam orally requested the Tiswadi Mamlatdar, Franklin Ferrao to inspect the damaged crops and the flooded fields. Ferrao assured President of the Farmers Club of St Estevam, Nestor Rangel to send the talathi for a site inspection.
The mamlatdar inspected Divar Island on Friday to evaluate the losses suffered by the farmers due to flooding of paddy crops. Low lying areas of Divar continue to remain cut off from the rest of the island with students being unable to go to school.
Herald reported on Friday that due to incessant rains, the flood water had entered the fields in St Estevam destroying over 15 lakh square meters of paddy fields.
