CANACONA: Palolem beach will soon feature traditional beach shacks after a gap of over three years.
According to reliable sources, the Tourism department recently allotted three beach shacks at Palolem and tourism officials will visit Palolem to demarcate the location of the beach shacks.
It may be recalled that Palolem beach had been denied beach shacks since 2010 following a High Court petition. Efforts by the government last year to salvage the situation by allotting three beach shacks right at the fag end of the tourism season had failed to see beach shacks at this beach.
Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar also confirmed that the State government had allotted three beach shacks at Palolem.
According to sources, Rajmini Santosh Pagi, Vishu Celement Fernandes and Dinesh Pagi are the three winners after Tourism department drew a lots from about eight applicants. All the three winners are reportedly from the experienced lot of beach shack operators, sources added.
When contacted, one applicant confirmed the developments and further informed that although the allottees are ready to set up the allotted beach shacks, tourism officials were yet to demark the location on the beach.
“We have been told that tourism officials will arrive at Palolem to demarcate the area within the next four days,” informed the applicant.
