MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho has demanded a thorough probe into how a whopping Rs 65 lakh are being paid every month for Fomento Green as there is a controversy over the type of waste that is given to the company.
While the report from Goa State Pollution Control Board on the type of waste given to Fomento is still awaited as per Fomento Green’s report certifying that the waste given to them is excluded or mixed waste and as Fomento is being paid Rs 1 lakh per day to collect this waste, they will continue to mint money.
Savio pointed out that per month MMC is paying around 35 lakh to the two contractors to collect segregated waste and yet the waste reaching Fomento plant is said to be excluded or mixed waste. “This would imply that the contractors are not collecting segregated waste,” he said.
He said ultimately this excluded or mixed waste will have to be treated by the bio remediation method for which it is estimated that one tonne will be treated at the cost of Rs 1,800 which means additional expenditure for the council.
