MARGAO: Joining the protests of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) workers Shadow Council for Margao, slammed the Council and the government for the injustice towards the Municipal workers.
SCM Convener Savio Coutinho stated that 14 Margao Municipal Council daily wage workers, who had put in 15 to 20 years of services in waste collection and drain cleaning work, were very excited as they received their appointment orders regularizing their services.
He recalled that the same had promised repeatedly by MMC Chairperson and the MLAs of Fatorda and Margao. “You call them frontline warriors and shower them with petals and praises. But the ground reality and the hardships faced by them and their families, hardly gets the attention of the authorities concerned,” said Coutinho while lamenting that they had been paid the same daily wages up to April 2020 even after completing all formalities. He added that they worked without salary or a work order in May 2020.
The biggest shocker came to them on June 10, when the Council served them an order that the earlier order of appointment had been kept in abeyance,” he added.
