Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told House that Justice M B Shah Commission’s hand-held survey on the encroachments was misleading and wrong.
“Shah Commission report was completely based on hand-held investigation. They pointed out encroachment of 578 ha that is so much of area was additionally brought under mining,” Parrikar said responding to a question by Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro.
“But, when we did our survey using DGP data, it was found to be only 10 ha, the value of that extracted ore can come to Rs 50-100 crore only,” he added.
“The Shah Commission survey is wrong,” Parrikar said, adding that the total value of the ore extracted does not represent a loss to the state government, thus lowering the actual loss estimated by the Commission.
“Value of the ore is not loss to the government. The loss to the government is of the royalty (on ore extracted),” Parrikar said.
