Shantaram questions State’s financial position

PANJIM: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik on Friday raised questions over the financial position of the State and whether it would be in a position to implement the VIIth Pay Commission, which will be announced soon.

Addressing media persons, Naik said the Central pay commission will soon submit its report and the same has to be accepted and implemented by States.
“There is a question whether the Goa government will implement it, considering that it has gone bankrupt. Everyone is aware about the financial position of the State and hence there is need to work out ways to generate revenue to implement VIIth Pay Commission,” he said.
The MP said the government needs to focus on revenue generation to make it financially sound.
Further, stating that the concept of Smart City is just to fool the people, Naik highlighted that no smart city development project can be executed without private partnership. “If Panjim becomes a smart city it is a welcome sign, but there is no clarity on whether the city proposal will be approved,” he said.
