VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council on Wednesday informed that the shed proposed in a 1000 square metre area at Headland Sada to stack baled waste has finally received approval from the government.
The MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar said the work has already been tendered for construction of shed and funds to the tune of Rs1.3 crore will be utilised.

When questioned on the current status of the shed which the municipality plans to construct at Sada, Sankhwalkar informed that the construction work has received an administrative approval. Rs 1.3 crore funds will be utilised for composting wet waste (2 units) which will be done under Fourteenth Finance Commission grants to MMC through Goa State Urban Development Agency. The grants have been sanctioned.
It may be recalled that Urban Development Minister Milind Naik along with DMA and other officials after inspecting the functioning of the new solid waste treatment plant at Headland Sada had decided to construct a shed on an ad hoc basis by next month. The shed is expected to stack the baled waste material to protect it from the rains and to continue the waste treatment work. More than 60% of the legacy waste was treated.
Naik had said that the newly set up plant based on bio-mining technology is functioning properly. More than 60% of legacy waste has been brought from the existing solid waste dumping site and it has been treated at the new treatment plant.
On the inspection and the functioning of the new waste treatment plant, Naik had said, “During inspection we have taken a decision that due to lockdown, the treated waste won’t go out of Goa. To accommodate this final output, under GSUDA, 1000 sq metres shed will be built in which the material which has been baled will be stacked.”
The inert garbage will go to the ceiling, the rubber and plastic waste which is supposed to be sent to cement factories outside Goa, will be stacked.
