PANJIM: North Goa District and Sessions Court rejected the bail application filed by Additional Collector I North Goa, Sabaji Shetye, who was caught after accepting a bribe of RS 25,000 to issue a NOC for some explosives storage licences.
Shetye applied for bail immediately after Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested him on Tuesday. Court had heard the arguments on Wednesday and reserved the order for Thursday. The court on Wednesday had granted police five days custody of Shetye.
Shetye was interrogated at ACB by Investigating Officer F X Corte at ACB office Altinho following his discharge from GMC. Shetye was admitted in GMC following his arrest after complaining of uneasiness.
ACB while opposing Shetye’s bail application had told court that custodial interrogation is required to attach and find out details of his assets and bank accounts and to interrogate him regarding his bank lockers.
ACB had also pleaded before the court that if the accused is granted bail than it will send a wrong signal and no one will come forward to file such cases of demand by the public servants.
Shetye was arrested by ACB on June 6 after accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from an engineering consultant.
