Shift administrative offices to new market complex, demands Vasco NGO

Vasco: Goa First, Vasco based NGO demanded that the newly built market complex building at Headland Sada, which is underutilised, should be put to better use by shifting all administrative offices and Mormugao Municipal Council office.

The structure, which has turned into a white elephant, should be utilised earliest by the authorities by shifting their offices here, as the existing old Mormugao Municipal Council building has been undergoing renovation work.

While addressing a press conference, Parshuram Sonurlekar, president of Goa First requested the government and Directorate of Municipal Administration to accommodate all the government offices under the single roof which is at Sada new market complex. If this demand is fulfilled then the citizens will find it comfortable to address their requirements as most of the major departments will be under one roof.

He also pointed out that if all these government departmental offices are placed at different locations then it will be difficult for the people to locate, visit each department which are inter-connected.

Sonurlekar said that the municipality building houses several departmental offices and lots of important documents and files, which have to be safely dealt with while shifting and storing at a new place. Similarly, same kinds of precautions will have to be taken by the other departments in their areas.

“We have also learnt that there have been efforts by municipal council and other departments to find a suitable place for their offices to shift but it has been found that most of these government offices are not able to find suitable premises with negotiable rent. Therefore, Goa First demands before the government and to the municipal council that kindly consider shifting these offices at Sada new market complex which is just 2.8-km away from existing municipality office. This new complex structure also has better road connectivity and transport system and a ground plus four floors. The structure build up have cost approximately Rs 8 crore. It also have a parking for 50 cars and 25 two wheelers,” Sonurlekar added.

Sonurlekar mentioned that the building already have solar lighting and water harvesting facility and government can get the basic facilities such as water and power on urgent basis and even occupancy and NOC from relevant offices. Although, the building project have been completed long back and has been kept unused, shops have not been allotted.
