VASCO: Parents as well as teaching staff at Mormugao Municipal High School (MMHS) which is operating from the municipal building in Vasco have raised serious concerns over the decision of the civic body to temporarily shift the school to Baina, to undertake pending renovation/repairs of the municipal building.
According to the some parents, shifting of students from MMHS to Mata Secondary School building at Baina would cause severe hardship to the students at the end of this academic year. They said that such decision would create inconvenience and hardship to the students in the current academic year with final examinations slated for March. Besides, shifting the school during evening hours would hamper the studies of students who have been preparing for final exams, the said.
“Since last few days we have been hearing that the MMC wants to shift MMHS to Mata School in Baina shortly so that MMC can take up renovation of the municipal building. The MMC should take up the work after the exams, otherwise the same would create severe inconvenience to the students as their final exams are slated for March,” said a parent.
Similar concerns were raised by the teaching staff, who want the MMC to defer its decision to shift the school till exams are over.
“It is obvious that the decision to temporary shift the school to Mata School before exams will affect the students to adjust, as exams are on their head. Though MMC has not yet communicated to us that the school will be shifted during exams, I have already written to the chief officer, communicating to her that the same would affect students and that the MMC should defer its decision,” School Headmistress Sharda Naik said.
