PONDA: Accusing the management of Kamaxi Homeopathic College of grabbing 75,000 sq mtrs more than the allotted land, the Communidade of Shiroda has also demanded a CBI probe into the dumping of nine cadavers at an unused crematorium in Karai-Shiroda.
It may be recalled that Ponda police on July 6 had recovered nine cadavers and later registered a case against the two laboratory attendants, Benedito Fernandes and Devidas Borkar, the principal and the management of Kamaxi Homeopathic College.
The accused Devidas Borkar, Benedito Fernandes both laboratory attendants were later arrested and released on bail.
In a two-page letter to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Shiroda Communidade President Gurudas Prabhu Dessai claimed that the educational institution had not followed guidelines laid down by Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to dispose off the cadavers and added that such haphazard disposal could have been a health hazard for residents in the locality.
Prabhu Dessai also claimed that the “Communidade of Shiroda had allotted an area admeasuring 25,000 sqmtrs to the educational institute some 16 years ago. However, the president of the said institute, who happened to be holding a high position in the previous government, has misused his powers and illegally grabbed around 75,000 sq mtrs land of the Shiroda communidade.”
Dessai told Herald that he favoured a CBI probe in the haphazard disposal of the cadavers. “No doubt, Ponda police will conduct an impartial inquiry in the matter, but if a CBI inquiry is ordered, it would bring to the fore various illegalities. There is no permission from the Shiroda communidade to use the land for disposal of cadavers, but it was given for educational purposes.”
Incidentally, GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar is the chairman of Shivgram Education Society, which runs number of educational institutes, including the Kamaxi Homeopathic College.
When contacted, Shirodkar said, “let there be a CBI inquiry and as far as communidade land is concerned, there is no question of encroachment as we have all the necessary documents.”
According to information, Ponda police is waiting a report from the anatomy department of the GMC on the cadavers and also from the Goa State Pollution Board, which had recently inspected the site and had also visited the college. Ponda police informed that further action would be initiated based on the reports.
