PANJIM: The Shiv
Sena has slammed the Goa government for imposing section 144 CrPC in view of
the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) claiming it is in
violation of the fundamental rights of a citizen.

Rane made the statement after social activist and para-teacher Swati Kerkar was
stopped by a policeman before crossing the road near Azad Maidan, in Panjim.

Kerkar, angered by this,
said, “The government can make Goa the permanent destination for IFFI, but they
cannot regularize the services of para-teachers who are teaching for a decade.”
Kerkar demanded that
the government revoke section 144. “The government can go ahead with their
entertainment activities spending crores of rupees, but at the same time they
should not interfere with the activities of the public,” she added.
Rane told media
persons that he confronted the District Magistrate on the issue and was
informed by Nila Mohanan that 7000 odd delegates have come for IFFI and section
144 has been imposed to avoid any inappropriate incident.
“Imposing this
section is unconstitutional and will be raised in court immediately,” Rane added.
He also stated that if immediate action is not taken on the issue, a protest
will be held.
