Show cause notice to Vasco contractor

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a show-cause notice to a contractor for failing to complete the marking of 29 Zebra Crossings in the port town.

Speaking to Herald, MMC Chief Officer J Bhingui said he had served a seven-day show-cause notice to the contractor seeking an explanation why his contract should not be terminated for not completing the work, as assured by him.
“The contractor has failed to reply to my notice and I am in the process of terminating the contract. If the contractor does not come to my office with an explanation by today, then I will issue a termination notice to the contractor,” said Bhingui.
“It is surprising that the contractor has taken the council for granted. On December 16, 2014, the contractor had sought extra time by stating that his machine had broken down. He had assured to procure a new machine from Mumbai and would complete the marking of the Zebra Crossing zones. But till date, the contractor has failed to complete the work,” added Bhingui.
It may be recalled that the South Goa Collector in its notification dated September 26, 1989, had directed authorities to mark Zebra Crossing zones at 29 different places starting from St Andrew’s Junction Vasco to Sanjeevini Hospital, Baina.
