Lok Sabha member Shripad Naik has asked the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry to immediately de-notify the three SEZ in Goa.
In a letter addressed to the Commerce and industry Minister Anand Sharma, Naik has reminded the present minister that his predecessor Kamal Nath had promised the people of Goa that the three SEZ would be de-notified after taking cognizance of the feelings of Goans and asserting that SEZ will not be allowed against the wishes of the people.
He also pointed out that the reason cited by the ministry for not de-notifying the SEZ since the matter was sub-judice, did not hold any longer as the High Court has dismissed the petitions filed by the promoters of the SEZ in Goa.
In fact, Naik made a special mention of the High Court order with regards to its observation that the land was allotted to the SEZ promoters in a hasty manner and without even scrutinizing the applications.
He argued that the High Court order and the critical comments therein make it very clear that the SEZ policy in Goa was nothing but a scam to grab land for housing by real estate developers and opined that since powerful people were involved in these nefarious deals, they would do anything and everything possible to retain the land.
Hence, Mr. Naik urged the Union Minister to immediately denotify the three SEZ so that no fingers could be pointed to his department or the government for conniving with the perpetrators of the scam.
