CANACONA: Shristhal Panch Prashant Desai has been accused of assaulting the Shristhal Talathi Prashant Cuncolienkar outside the panchayat office on Tuesday morning.
In a counter-complaint, Panch Dessai has stated that the Talathi had abused him and had used provocative words against him.
According to Canacona Police, Cuncolienkar complained that Desai had assaulted him, besides obstructing him from discharging his duties.
Acting on Cuncolienkar’s complaint, Canacona Police registered an FIR against Panch Dessai for the alleged assault on the Talathi.
According to Canacona Police, it was Dessai who had first complained that the Talathi had abused him and used provocative words against him, reportedly when he sought to discus some issue.
Cuncolienkar, however, complained to the police and the Canacona mamlatdar, Cuncolienkar complained that he was introduced to one of Dessai’s companion in an unparliamentary manner.
Cuncolienkar alleged that Dessai had raked up his past by stating that he had been suspended following the controversy over Sanjay Dutt’s much publicised civil marriage registration in the State. Cuncolienkar said he had objected to such reference.
In retaliation, Dessai had assaulted him, causing injuries to his face and back, claimed Cuncolienkar.
Sources informed that Cuncolienkar later got himself admitted and was medically examined at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC). Cuncolienkar was discharged from the CHC on wed, and is likely to resume his duties on Thursday.
According to Police, Desai has applied for anticipatory bail and his application is likely to come up on Thursday.
Cuncolienkar has also been called to remain present at the police station on Thursday evening in connection with his complaint against Dessai and he is also likely to be quizzed by police in the complaint filed by Desai. ASI S P Gaonkar is investigating the case.
