PANJIM: Goa on Friday registered 927 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in a single day since the time the pandemic broke out in India last year. The previous hike was 757, reported just a day before on Thursday.
The highest daily count has taken Goa’s positivity rate to 29.07 percent. As per the Health Bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services mentions that out of 3187 samples tested, 927 came positive for the dreaded virus while six persons have died during this period, probably the highest at least in the last over three months. A total of 868 patients have died, te bulletin states.

The recovery, in last 24 hours, has been 282 taking the total Recovery count to 58310. Goa has till date recorded 65499 cases with Active cases tally recording at 6321.
The past 24 hours period has also seen 100 patients getting hospitalized and 357 going into Home Isolation.
The Urban Health Centre continues to report highest Active cases – 725 followed by Primary Health Centre, Porvorim recoding 589 cases. A total of 426 cases are reported at UHC Mapusa, 417 at PHC Ponda, 416 at PHC Candolim and 414 UHC Panjim. The UHC At Vaco has reported 370 Active cases with the least PHC Mayem reporting 35 cases.
Out of six deaths reported in last 24 hours, five were at GMC and one at South Goa District Hospital. Among the five deaths at GMC, two patients died in less than six hours of admission, one who was admitted as medico-legal case was into a surgical unit and found COVID-19 positive. The exact cause will be made available after a post-mortem.
The second patient was symptomatic with cough and fever for six days and detected COVID-19 during this same period, as per details shared by the health officials. They were under home isolation. The patient developed breathlessness and desaturation and died within two hours of arrival at GMC.
The death at SGDH was a case of respiratory failure and succumbed to COVID-19 despite resuscitation.
