Single largest spike takes active cases to 18k

PANJIM: At a 38.60 per cent positivity rate, Goa reported a major jump in single-day cases with 3,101 cases – the highest since the pandemic hit the State last year. The State also reported 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Of the deaths, 12 COVID-19 patients died in the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), 11 at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and one at a private hospital in South Goa.

The health bulletin released by Directorate of Health Services reported 3,101 new COVID positive cases that saw the total number of active cases breach the 18,000 mark, rising up to 18,829.

The recovery rate has dropped to 76.54 per cent as 839 patients recovered within 24 hours. 

A total of 1,267 new patients were placed under home isolation while 239 new patients were hospitalised.

Margao, Cortalim, Panjim, Porvorim, Ponda and Candolim have turned out to be hot spots as each of these places report above 1000 active cases. While Margao Urban Health Centre reported 1828 active cases, Candolim Primary Health Centre has 1436 active cases, Porvorim PHC reported 1291 active cases while Cortalim PHC has 1192 active cases, Panjim UHC 1162 active cases and Ponda PHC 1091 active cases.
