MAPUSA: Siolim villagers with support of Siolim Marna panchayat on Wednesday decided not to allow “outside” vendors in the village fish market from Thursday.
A group of villagers along with the sopo collector and acting sarpanch Fredy Fernandes visited the Tar Siolim fish market on Wednesday and instructed the fish vendors from other neighbouring areas especially from Mapusa not come to Siolim market to sell fish for next 15-22 days in view of COVID-19 cases.
The villagers took the decision following the detection of several COVID positive cases in Mapusa jurisdiction. They requested the visitors to park their vehicles outside the market.
They informed that only local fish vendors can operate in market area and instructed the local vendors not to sell fish to those customers who are found without masks. The villagers said due to COVID pandemic the vendors have been directed not to visit the Siolim market as it leads to crowding and the social distancing norms get violated which may lead to virus spread in the village.
The Sarpanch said he will monitor the market area on daily basis to ensure that the vendors and people are following social distancing norms and wearing masks.
