SIT registers FIR against Gudlar
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, JAN 23
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has registered an FIR against suspended PSI Sunil Gudlar who was allegedly caught on video footage selling drugs to two women.
The SIT on Saturday registered an FIR against the suspended cop under Sections 380 (theft), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He is also facing charges under Sections 7, 11, 12, 13 (1) c and 14 (1 (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and under Section 8-C of Narcotic Drug & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, read with sections 28, 29, 30, 31 and 59 (2) (b).
The SIT official confirmed that the FIR has been registered against Gudlar on January 22 following a complaint by Kashinath Shetye and twelve others.
The complaints had alleged that Crime Branch which was earlier conducting investigation into alleged links of some policemen with drug dealers, had turned blind eye towards their involvement.
According to them incriminating video showing Gudlar selling drugs was shot four months back when Venu Bansal was heading Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) as assistant Superintendent of Police.
Bansal is currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh.
The complaint has also mentioned one Roy who they claim has strong ties with a powerful minister in the Kamat-led Government. The complaint says Roy has used his political connection to enhance his drug trade through his selected men in the ANC.
The SIT confirmed that no FIR has been registered against other two names mentioned in the complaint. The SIT was constituted as Government could not resist pressure from the Opposition which went hammer and tongs after the video footage of Gudlar became public knowledge.
On the other hand the Crime Branch which was handling cases of police-drug nexus for the past year did not achieve a breakthrough in the investigation.
