MARGAO: Nearly six doctors and few nurses engaged in the COVID centre at South Goa District Hospital has tested COVID positive.
And hence there is a possibility of staff crunch which may hamper the medical service in the hospital.
The shortage of beds has also forced the authority of South Goa District Hospital to shift patients to other hospitals on daily basis. The SGDH is getting overloaded with COVID positive patients these days.
While the vacant place of swab centre at SGDH has now converted into the screening centre since Friday evening.
As informed by the sources, more than 500 patients are admitted to the SGDH and the hospital has left with no place for more. And hence the shifting of patients has started in the last few days.
SGDH Nodal Officer Dr Rajesh on Saturday said that the hospital is short of beds and also informed that nearly six doctors and a few nurses working in the hospital are tested COVID positive.
“Today six doctors of SGDH have been tested positive and hence there is a possibility of crunch in staff which can hamper the service at the hospital,” he informed.
“We have all the facilities over here including liquid oxygen. We have sizeable oxygen cylinders and we have done backup cylinders facility in the hospital,” he stated.
Dr Patel also appealed to the people to be alert as this second wave of COVID-19 is very serious and dangerous. Using a mask and social distancing is a must. Not to make a rush and stay at home.
He also said that 7 to 10 COVID positive patients are shifted either to MPT or at Ponda sub-district hospitals on daily basis.
Despite these, the administration is yet to take the decision on the two floors of SGDH hospital in use. A few days back, District Collector and other officials had inspected the two floors and had hinted positive decision.
Dr Patel is on the record saying the hospital administration had requested to make use of those two floors immediately to lessen the burden of patients.
Dr Rajesh said that the hospital has started a screening centre at a vacant place of the swab centre and after the screening, only serious patients are given entry into the casualty. The number of patients is increasing on daily basis but the number of doctors treating them is the same.
He also appealed to the people to corporate with the doctors and nurses as the overall medical fraternity is facing a tough time handling the number of patients.
