VASCO: Personnel of Vasco fire and emergencies services and the electricity department were busy on Sunday after six incidents of uprooted trees were reported. Fortunately there were no casualties.
According to a fire officer, most of the cases involved trees collapsing on electricity wires, due to which many parts of Mormugao were without electricity for hours. A few areas in Vasco were also without electricity since Saturday night.
The first incident was reported at around Noon when a jackfruit tree fell on a shop and the road near Sai Baba temple, New Vaddem. Similarly, a coconut tree collapsed on a parked TATA 407 vehicle and on electric wires near Vaddem lake. Another incident was reported near the football ground in Matvem-Dabolim, near Fish Bone restaurant in Sancoale, and near Dutt temple in Orulem.
There were also reports of water logging and flooding in low lying areas. The high velocity winds and the heavy reains made driving difficult on the roads of Vasco.
