Skill development centre inaugurated in Margao

MARGAO: The first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra, also called skill development centre, was inaugurated in Margao on Tuesday by South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in the presence of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Speaker Pramod Sawant.
The skill development center titled “Shwini Skills Development Institute” is set up by a private firm called Silver Oak. The center is a part of the Skill India programme operated by the National Skills Development Corporation.
The center will provide free certification courses in CCTV installation, solar panel installation, street food vendor/ catering and field technician (home appliances). The duration of the courses are four months and would commence from March 1.
Sawaikar said that the Skill India scheme provides more than 200 courses which would be introduced at the center based on the response. He highlighted the importance of skills to get employment opportunities in the industry. Speaker Promod Sawant said that the students who are currently studying in school, ITI or graduation, and even housewives can enroll for the course.
Sardesai said that the end result of the scheme should be getting a job. “A company like Cipla which advertises out of Goa due to lack of skills and man power, that time it is the responsibility of the government to provide the skills to the local youth to make them employable,” he said.
