A day after the Supreme Court rejected Mickky Pacheco’s anticipatory bail application, the Crime Branch on Friday moved the Magistrate’s court here to issue a warrant of arrest against the former tourism minister in the Nadia Torrado death case.
Crime Branch Police Inspector Sunita Sawant filed the application before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao Kalpana Gawas this evening. The court has fixed hearing of arguments on the application on Saturday morning.
In the application, the Crime Branch submitted that the former minister has been evading arrest since the rejection of the anticipatory bail application by the Supreme Court.
Sources said the court posted the matter for arguments on Saturday morning as the application was filed at the fag end of the day.
When Assistant Public Prosecutor, Sarika Faldessai moved the application to the Judge for issuance of the warrant of arrest, Judge Gawas posted the matter for arguments on Saturday morning.
Earlier, PI Sawant along with personnel of the investigating agency came with a bunch of files in the court and was huddled with the Assistant Public Prosecutor outside the court room as well as in the Prosecutor’s room for a long time, discussing points for arguments before the Judicial Magistrate tomorrow morning.
The investigating officer was tightlipped on the grounds cited by the prosecution to issue warrant of arrest against the former tourism minister. Sources in the know, however, said the investigating agency has mentioned in the application how the Benaulim legislator has been avoiding interrogations by the agency since the last one month.
