BICHOLIM: Bicholim police, on Monday, arrested four persons, including a Sanquelim Municipal Council chairman and councilor for restricting the Bicholim Mamlatdar from demolishing extended part of an illegal shop at Sanquelim.
According to the complaint registered by the Bicholim Mamlatdar, Pravinjay Pandit via order dated 6/2/2019, he along with the demolition team and police personnel had gone to Sanquelim to demolish the construction of the extended part of the shop belonging to one Anand Verekar.
During the demolition process the chairman of SMC, Dharmesh Saglani; councilor, Damodar Ghadi; ex-councillor, Riyaz Khan; shop owner, Anand Verekar and others obstructed the demolition team from undertaking the activity. “The aforesaid persons physically threatened and intimidated and verbally abused the Mamlatdar and manhandled the police personnel,” the complaint reads.
Based on the complaint the police at first detained the four persons and in the evening a FIR was registered under Sections 143, 147, 504, 506, 354, 353 rw 149 IPC. They were later released on bail.
