PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that the work of Socorro Panchayat Ghar will be completed by mid December and one of the shops in the Panchayat Ghar will be reserved for self help group to display and sell their products.
Khaunte was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the protection wall for a 700 metre long nullah at Ambirna-Socorro.
Khaunte said during monsoon, water from the nullah used to enter the fields of about 80 farmers in Ambirna, thereby damaging the crops. “The protection wall, which is being constructed by the Water Resource Department, will prevent flooding of fields and will provide a boost to the farmers,” added Khaunte.
He further said he is receiving good support from the State government and developmental works proposed in each of the wards in Socorro will be taken up one by one.
Water Resource Department Assistant Engineer Ravlu Shetye said the 700 metre long protection wall will be constructed on both sides of the Ambirna nullah by spending Rs 2.45 crore and the work will be completed by May 2014.
Earlier, Rajan Parsekar welcomed the gathering, while Deputy Sarpanch Anil Pednekar proposed the vote of thanks.
