PANJIM: Public Works Department minister and also Minister for Non Conventional Energy Ramkrishna Sudhin Dhavalikar said that the government was soon coming out with a solar policy that would give a big boost to use of solar power in the state.
Speaking at the seminar organized by Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with Goa Energy Development Agency on roof top solar power and steam generation in Panjim, Dhavlikar said that while the costs of conventional energy are going up, the costs of non-conventional energy are coming down.
“Though non-conventional energy like solar power is still costly, the latest advancements in technology will make it cheaper and affordable,” he said.
Earlier while welcoming the participants , Rajan Bhatikar, chairman of the chamber’s basic infrastructure committee said that though at present the cost of solar power at Rs. 7-8 per unit is more than the power generated from hydel and coal based power plants, it is much cheaper than the power generated by diesel generators and by using LNG / LPG etc.
He said that the present day cost of generation of solar power is also comparable to the cost of EHT / HT power paid by consumers in some states like Maharashtra.
Dr Pathak, member secretary of GEDA also spoke and there were presentations by various experts on central policies and schemes, roof op power generation, solar energy storage alternatives, building codes and structural design etc.
