BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Deputy Collector, on Friday, held a meeting with Sonshi residents who are opposing the movement of mining trucks in their village. While he tried to get them to call off their protest, the residents insisted that they would continue their agitation until their demand to prohibit the movement of trucks in Sonshi is met.
It may be recalled that on Thursday, around 99 Sonshi residents were arrested for allegedly obstructing police while the latter were trying to arrest villagers for blocking trucks of Infrastructure Logistics Pvt Ltd, which were transporting ore from Sonshi to Amona.
The residents have been protesting the movement of trucks in the village for the last four days and blocked some trucks on Wednesday, following which ILPL filed a complaint against them.
On Friday, Bicholim Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar held a meeting with the residents, during which the residents strongly opposed the movement of trucks from the village and stated that the agitation would continue. Arondekar warned that action would be taken if they continued to block trucks.
The residents assured that they would not block any vehicle, but would continue their agitation peacefully by the roadside.
