South district hospital before 2017 polls, says D’Souza

MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has promised to deliver the South Goa District Hospital before the 2017 Assembly elections.

MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has promised to deliver the South Goa District Hospital before the 2017 Assembly elections.
He was speaking after handing over various essential items to the Hospicio Hospital on Thursday.
He informed that the works on the South Goa District hospital have been tendered and the government has also sent the letter of acceptance to the contractor. The cost of the hospital is estimated at Rs 99.60 crore.
Mattresses, pillows, bed sheets, six air-conditioners for blood bank and other facilities have been given by the GCCI under corporate social responsibility. Some of the articles were presented to the Medical officer of the Hospicio on Thursday at the hands of Deputy Chief Minister and also the President of GCCI Narayan Bandekar. 
“The work will begin soon and in 15 months the work of the district hospital will be complete and I assure that it will be open for the South Goans before elections in 2017,” he said. 
“To reduce the crunch of doctors the government will have to relax the residence requirement for recruitment of doctors and also will have to add in more medical officers,” D’Souza said. 
Deputy CM admitted that the government has not taken advantage of the offer of industrialists and corporates under CSR activities. 
Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado requested the GCCI president to get them the remaining nine air-conditioners and the generator. 
D’Souza informed that Avertano had been given the responsibility to coordinate with the government on the various needs and requirements of Hospico.
 while at the same time stressing that the investment focus would largely be on the new district hospital.
