MARGAO: It appears that the new South Goa District Hospital has been deemed as “unfit” to be used as the quarantine centre for suspected COVID-19 patients.
Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Ira Almeida informed Herald that the new district hospital won’t suit the needs of a quarantine centre. The ESI Hospital will continue to handle positive cases.
“The District Hospital cannot be used for housing quarantine patients. For quarantine facility, there is a need to have separate toilets for each patient as there is a fear of coronavirus spreading if common toilets are used. Hence, in my view, it is not possible to use the hospital as quarantine centre”, Dr Almeida said.
Whether any decision has been taken in this regard, Dr Almeida replied in the negative.
