PANJIM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has predicted that the southwest monsoon will approach Kerala on May 31.
Speaking to reporters, IMD Goa Director Nahush Kulkarni said,” As we had said earlier that the monsoon is likely to approach Kerala by May 31, 2024, we stick to that statement. We are still with the statement that the monsoon arrival will be in the next three to four days. We constantly monitoring the situation.”

He said the IMD also monitoring the likely impact of Cyclone Remal on the arrival of monsoon. However, he added that the Cyclone Remal in the Bay of Bengal has no effect on Goa.
He said as per IMD criteria, if 50 out of 54 stations receive consistent rain then the monsoon is termed as normal.
“We will update you once this criteria is fulfilled. However, as of today we are expecting the arrival of monsoon on May 31, 2024, over Kerala,” he said.
Meanwhile, as per data from IMD, Goa has received 3.7 inches of rainfall during the period of March 1, 2024, to May 22, 2024, which is 162 per cent departure from the normal rainfall.
