PANJIM: Investigations into some high-profile corruption cases, involving senior politicians including MLAs, and bribery case against the chief minister’s brother-in-law may take a hit, as the State on Friday transferred Superintendent of Police (SP) Bosco George from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to a marginal unit of Goa police.
As per the Personnel Department order, Geroge has been transferred to the State Police Control Room (SPCR) and Home Guards. He has been replaced by Vimal Anand Gupta (IPS), who earlier served in the Delhi police.
George was investigating corruption cases involving former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao in the award of tenders and distribution of water tank scam, MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar in the IDC plot scam and disproportionate assets case, former ministers Vishwajit Rane and Ravi Naik for illegal recruitment in government departments. He was also probing the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) scam, and had summoned Leader of the Opposition Pratapsingh Rane and Congress President Luizinho Faleiro.
George was also involved in investigating Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s brother-in-law Dilip Malvankar, a Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) field manager, who was caught accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe.
Meanwhile, nine junior scale officers were promoted on an ad-hoc basis for one year or till the post is filled on regular basis. The officers include Narayan Prabhudessai, Sabaji Shetye, Shamsunder Parab, Sneha Morajkar, Pravin Barad, Ashok Rane, Upasana Maxgaonkar, Sanjeev Gauns Dessai and R K Halarnkar.
