PONDA: An ambitious project featuring indoor stadiums for badminton and table tennis, and a gymnasium for aspiring body-builders, the sports complex on the Marcaim ground could well be one of Ponda’s best sports facilities yet. Except that it is not fully ready.
Local authorities say they are flummoxed by the fact that the complex, on which just around 10% of work is pending, hasn’t been thrown open despite there being limited access to sports facilities in the area.
“The government began construction of the Rs 5.5-crore project in 2019. Most of the work, including painting of the complex, has been completed and local sportspersons are keen on using it. But we fail to understand why it is not being inaugurated,”MarcaimsarpanchShailendraPanjikar said. He demanded that the facility be launched at the earliest for the benefit of young athletes.
The complex also features rest rooms, a canteen, separate changing rooms for males and females, a spacious lobby and a special stand for journalists, too.
